Lexar/Canon problems to require factory service

[Archived in Entry, Lexar]

[Digital Camera News at DigiCamNews.net] Alternatively, customers can call the Professional Support line at (510) 413-1233 to be issued a RMA number. Customers will then be instructed to send the Lexar product to the nearest Lexar office where their card will be exchanged for a card with the updated firmware. It is not possible for customers to install the updated firmware. Issues experienced with other cards may be addressed by Canon through its firmware release.

Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.

[ Wetpixel.com :: Digital Underwater Photography and Videography (News, Reviews, and Forums)] Lexar Announces Firmware Fix and Recall for 80X Cards: Lexar has announced that on June 3, 2005, it will release a firware update for Lexar Professional 80x CompactFlash cards for customers who have experienced problems with the following Canon cameras: Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II, EOS-1D Mark II, EOS 20D, and EOS Digital Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital / EOS Kiss Digital N.

[PhotoshopNews: Photoshop News and Information] Lexar Announces Firmware Update for 80x Compact Flash Cards: (NOTE: Replacement cards cannot be processed without a RMA number). Follow the instructions to send the completed RMA form along with the Lexar product to the nearest Lexar office where the card will be exchanged for a card with the updated firmware. It is not possible to install the updated firmware.

[PhotoshopNews: Photoshop News and Information] Lexar also developing firmware update: More-recent 80X cards, ones whose edge stamp ends in 9171, may not experience image corruption in the Mark II cameras, but will require a firmware update to fix a potential image corruption problem when used in the EOS 20D/20Da and EOS Digital Rebel XT/350D. At this point, we’re assuming that earlier 80X CompactFlash cards with an edge stamp ending in something other than A4B6 or 9171 are free of this Canon camera incompatibility.

[The Daily Thing] Updating The D70: Easy As Pie: On the 512mb Lexar Pro card I use previously shooting NEF (RAW) only I was able to store 49 images. If I shot NEF with Basic JPG (2 files) I could only store 44 shots. Now, with the new algorithm, I can store 87 NEF (RAW) files or 77 NEF with Basic JPG files. That's almost a 60% increase.

[Gadgets99 - Your source for gadget news.] T-Mobile Terrorist (?) Strikes Again: Apparently not content to disrupt the Hollywood actor types only, the so-called T-Mobile Terrorist (I added the ? because as we all know, a true nickname must be earned - he appears to have simply selected it himself... ) has released a 3-minute video in which Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst is supposedly shown engaging in a somewhat graphic sexu...

[Richardsnotes.org] Richard’s Notes » Blog Archive » Lexar/Canon compact flash card issues: I don’t think you’ll have any problems with the lexar card with your G6. From my understanding it’s only DSLRs that are having the issues because of the buffers they use and the speed with which they write to the card. I doubt you could return it past 14 days to B and H, even unopened but don’t worry, use it and for the first little while count your shots and see what’s actually on the card when you unload onto your computer.
